Heat Building! It Could Get Awful Again!

The image above is a look at potential heat index numbers by Wednesday afternoon as another heat pump ridge builds in from the west. As of this writing the NBM (National Blend of Models) shows 7 straight days in the low to mid 90s. Only Wednesday showed dangerous heat.

The ECMWF is out of its mind though with six straight days over 100 degrees (actual air temperature). If that comes to fruition that will make 9 days so far this summer over 100 degrees in Philadelphia. That has never happened before. And that doesn’t even take into account what it will feel like when you factor in the humidity.

It’s just a matter of how far east this ridge travels before being suppressed by an upper-level trough. The farther east it comes, the worse the heat is going to be up and down the I-95 corridor and vice versa.

You can see the ECMWF is putting up some big numbers again! The latest update shows at least five days in the 90s with two potentially reaching 100.
