The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Philadelphia area under a level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk. While not everyone will see severe storms, conditions will be favorable for scattered thunderstorms to become strong during the afternoon and evening. The biggest threat will be damaging wind gusts capable of bringing down tree limbs and causing isolated power outages. A few storms could also produce hail, and while the tornado risk is low, it’s not zero.
I’m not impressed right now with the overall coverage or the idea of severe weather to begin with. I see more and more dry air trying to work in from the southwest during the day. Honestly, if it we’re me I would probably lover the risk from a 2 down to a 1 (isolated). But we’ll see how much action we actually get on the radar over the next few hours. If you have outdoor plans or a graduation keep an eye on the forecast. Again though, I think most areas will be fine today.
