Another fantastic beach day is expected Sunday with comfortable temperatures and a combination of sun and clouds. Dewpoints will steadily climb during the day, however. So initially it should feel pretty good out there, but you’ll notice the humidity build after 2pm. Thankfully, southerly winds will increase throughout the day too with occasional gusts as high as 25-30 mph. This should offset the humidity a little bit. Because of the layout of the Jersey shore a southerly wind should make for a nice cooling sea breeze. So as inland temperatures west of the Garden State Parkway top out in the 90s, temperatures on the beach and the boardwalk will struggle just to reach 80 degrees.
There’s an elevated rip current risk in effect from Brigantine to Cape May. If you’re heading into the water, make sure that you’re swimming near a lifeguard. If you ever get caught in a rip current, stay calm and let it take you out. Eventually you should start to feel the rip currents pull weaken. Start swimming parallel to the beach until you’re out of the rip current. Then start swimming back towards shore. Never swim against the current.
A Small Craft Advisory has also been issued for the boaters for seas of 3 to 5 feet.
The burn index (UV Index) is very high!
